History of Grand River Raceway
The first race meeting at Grand River took place in 1973 under the name « Grand Riverview Speedway. » At that time, it was primarily used for stock car and dirt track racing events. In 2005, the facility underwent significant renovations to transition into a standardbred harness racing track. The revamped complex reopened as the Elements Grand River Racing Complex, with its focus shifted towards horse racing.
Racing Schedule and Events
Grand River Raceway operates from late April through early October, with live racing events taking place on select dates throughout these months. Their primary racing surface is a 5/8-mile clay oval track. The Standardbred meets attract top Canadian drivers and trainers to compete in various classes.
One of the key events held annually at Grand River is the Battle for the Bandolier competition. This contest pits the best driver from Ontario against those from other provinces, creating an exciting inter-provincial rivalry.
